Christmas Lunch & Launch of our Welcoming Spaces Project

In keeping with our tradition of double celebration, we organised our Christmas lunch earlier than usual in order to launch our continuing Welcoming Spaces project in the presence of our three ward councillors, Cllr Matt Morrow, Cllr Nas Asghar & Cllr Issy Cooke. The session was divided into four parts. Speeches, launch of the project by Cllr Matt Morrow, lunch and QA session with Cllr Matt Morrow.

Ameen Hussain introduced the guests. Cllr Nas Asghar & Cllr Issy Cooke made to the point very brief but impressive speeches. After his speech, Cllr Matt Morrow launched our Welcoming Spaces project and emphasised the need to welcome all to our centre to provide the much needed support to deal with the cost of living crisis. Moving away from tradition, we are hosted our lunch with no turkey, no mistletoe, no wine and no traditional Christmas pudding. However, the atmosphere was Christmassy and festive.

Cllrs Nas & Issy left soon after lunch as they had prior engagements. Cllr Matt Morrow stayed behind and interacted with our members. Many questions were asked and several issues were raised. Cllr Matt listened very carefully with lot of patience and answered all queries. Members were very pleased and expressed their grateful thanks for dealing and responding to their queries. Cllr Matt not only dealt with the issues personally and verbally but also followed up by sending an email with helpful links and contact details. We appreciate the kind help provided by Cllr Matt to our members and hope to arrange similar sessions at our future sessions.

Easter Lunch & Launch

Our pattern of multiple celebrations continued with Easter & Holi lunch on 27 March 2024. Both festivals bring positivity and let go the negative energy.

Cllr Matt Morrow (Cabinet Member for Children & Young People) and Cllr Nas Asghar along with Nick Peer (RBG Senior Welfare Rights Officer - Advice & Benefits Service) and Joanna Stanley (RBG Cost of Living Project Officer - Management Trainee - Advice and Benefits) were present as our guests of honour.

Nick and Joanna joined in to see the progress of our Welcoming Spaces project as we nearly reached the end of the project. They were very pleased to note that we will be continuing the project for another year as we were successful in our bid from the National Lottery Fund to run our Community Lunch & Sewing/Textiles project and hence the term ‘Launch & Lunch’.

Cllr Nas Asghar who also helped us to install a cooker launched the lunch element and Cllr Matt Morrow launched the Sewing/Textiles element of the project.

Vaisakhi/Eid Lunch

Our members decided that we organise our Vaisakhi/Eid lunch on 5 June 2024. Thank you letter from Queen Elizabeth  Hospital

Balwant,

Thank you so much for your visit. I was so touched by your story and heart warmed knowing your grandson has continued to grow in health and spirit.

The blankets and knitted cardigans are beautiful and will be cherished by our babies and their families. I fell in love with your little teddy and know they will be much loved.

I look forward to seeing you in December.

With love and sparkles

Carol
